Rob Lowe cast on 'Code Black' as series regular

Rob Lowe has joined the cast of Code Black on the second season as a series regular.

Lowe will play Colonel Ethan Willis, a doctor in a military research program sent from Afghanistan to our friends at Angels Hospital in Los Angeles. His presence will be disliked by some doctors but well received by others including the lead played by Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River, Fifty Shades of Gray).

Aside from voicing Simba in the recent Lion King continuation TV series, Lowe starred in the Fox comedy The Grinder with Fred Savage (The Wonder Years) and Mary Elizabeth Ellis (Always Sunny). Despite strong critical reception and a Golden Globe nomination for Lowe, the show was canceled after one season.

Lowe also has a role in Monster Trucks set for release in January. He's also set to be in How to Be a Latin Lover opposite Kristen Bell, Salma Hayek and Michael Cera set for release in April 2017.

Code Black is a medical drama airing on CBS about an understaffed emergency room at a hospital in L.A. Harden stars with Melanie Chandra (The Brink), William Allen Young (District 9), Harry Ford (Louder Than Bombs), Benjamin Hollingsworth (The Joneses), Luis Guzmán (Boogie Nights), Boris Kodjoe (The Last Man on Earth) and Jillian Murray (The Squeeze).
