Electronic punk musician Alan Vega of Suicide has died at 78

Alan Vega, one of the members of the electronic punk duo Suicide, has died at 78.

Musician and radio host Henry Rollins confirmed the news on his website revealing a statement from Vega’s family.

“Alan passed peacefully in his sleep last night, July 16,” it read.

The statement also said “Alan’s life is a lesson of what it is to truly live for art.”

Vega formed the band with Martin Rev in 1970 and their 1977 self-titled album was seen as a landmark for the genre of electronic music, Entertainment Weekly noted.

Despite a stroke and heart attack in 2012, Vega was still active in the music scene, saying at one point “things are looking great so far.”

He is survived by his wife, Liz Vega and son, Dante.

Rollins has planned a special Sunday night installment of his radio show on KRCW to celebrate Vega.

Other notable musicians paid tribute to Vega, including Ryan Adams and Billy Idol.
