If you've been wondering when Eddie Murphy will reemerge, we now know the actor will appear back on the big screen in September.
He will be in the film titled Mr. Church, which centers on a relationship between a little girl (Tomorrowland's Britt Robertson) and the cook (Murphy) hired to take care of her dying mother.
From Driving Miss Daisy director Bruce Beresford and Two and a Half Men writer Susan McMartin, the film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April.
"We are proud to be a part of Eddie Murphy’s return to the big screen, particularly because he’s playing a role so different from his previous work," Courtney Solomon, co-founder of Cinelou Films, said. "It’s thrilling to see him demonstrate his incredible talent and skill with drama in Mr. Church."
Murphy is set to star as Richard Pryor's uncle in a biopic based on the comedian with Mike Epps (The Hangover) in the lead. He's also expected to return as Axel Foley in a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie. Neither of those films have release dates though.
The last Eddie Murphy movie released in theaters was A Thousand Words in 2012. Before that, it was Tower Heist in 2011 and voicing Donkey in Shrek Forever After in 2010. He did appear on the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special from 2015 though.
Murphy has starred in Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, Doctor Dolittle, The Nutty Professor, Trading Places, Daddy Day Care and Dreamgirls.
