Deal for live-action 'Pokémon' movie may happen soon

Legendary Pictures might be making a live-action Pokémon movie soon.

Deadline reports that the studio behind Jurassic World and The Dark Knight trilogy is on the path to a deal. This all comes in the wake of Legendary's Warcraft, a video game adaption that only pulled in $46.6 million domestically, but did $220.8 million in China. Legendary was bought by Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group for $3.5 billion in January, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The last Pokémon game, Pokémon Go, was released last week on mobile devices and has surpassed usage of popular apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and Tinder, according to USA Today.

Movies have been theatrically released since 1998 based on the Pokémon anime which is based on the video game from 1996. The last Pokémon movie released theatrically in the United States, Pokémon Heroes, was released in 2003. More animated movies have been released theatrically in other territories with 19 having been made in total. Volcanion and the Mechanical Magearna comes out July 16 in Japan. There has yet to be a live-action Pokémon movie.
