NFL cornerback Charles “Peanut” Tillman announced on Monday that he’s retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons.
The cornerback announced his retirement in a video on Twitter where he did his signature “Peanut Punch.” In the video Tillman swats things like cookies, a TV remote, books, bowling balls and a phone out of his family members hands. He also goes through a White Castle drive-thru and knocks down a bag of food. At the end of the video, Tillman hangs up his cleats at a time clock which has a sign that reads “Best Day Ever” and Tillman says "Thanks for all the love and support on and off the field.”
After his message the screen reads “Peanut Out” and then fades to black.
"I've had 13 amazing years on two great teams and I'm just thankful for the love and support that I got from my teammates, the fans and my coaches," Tillman told ChicagoBears.com. "I'm thankful to everyone who has helped me get to where I am right now because I definitely didn't do it by myself."
The athlete was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2003. He played for the Bears for 12 years, then spent last season with the Carolina Panthers. He had 44 forced fumbles and 38 interceptions and made the Pro Bowl two times in his career, according to ESPN. Tillman is the Bears all-time leader in defensive touchdowns (nine), interception return touchdowns (eight) and interception return yards (675). He helped the Bears win three NFC North titles and one Conference Championship.
Tillman was selected as the 2013 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year for his work with the Cornerstone Foundation, which has raised more than $1 million to help children with their education.
