2. The contestants are not generally creepy—now that is scary
It is easy to demonize people who are choosing to live an isolated life, but when you watch this show, most of these people are free from the personality disorders that make other reality TV fun to watch. Granted, most are a little eccentric, but they are not boring and know how to do so many things. It seems like contestants have to pass pretty strict psych tests in order to be on the show, and the only human contact they have is periodic perfunctory visits from the doctor to make sure they aren’t going crazy or have something deathly wrong with them. But the question is what would you do for $500,000? If you are the outdoor type, this may be your version of a lotto ticket with better odds. But as a viewer, some would say, “I want to do that,” while some indoor people would say, “Glad that isn’t me.”
