‘@Midnight’ recap: ‘Matt Walsh; Paget Brewster; Paul F. Tompkins’

The June 15 episode of @Midnight featured specials guests and competitors, Matt Walsh, Paget Brewster and Paul F. Tompkins.

The first game of the night, Rapid Refresh, challenged the competitors to provide entertaining commentary of the massive fire that took place in Los Angeles this week, Clinton’s conversation with Sanders on what it would take to earn his endorsement and the story of a man who avoided arrest for robbery when a DNA sample found in his underpants provided the judge with reasonable doubt. At the end of the round, contestants were neck-and-neck in a three-way tie.

Moving on to Hashtag Wars, the hashtag of the night was #dadsongs. Some of the better answers provided were, “I fought the lawn and the lawn won,” “Psycho griller,” “Propane in the membrane,” “I was watching that,” “You can’t always eat what you want” and “Stand by your van.” Posing the same question to Twitter, highlights can be found below:

The next game, Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls, was inspired by a recent trend in Internet commissioned drawings of profile pictures. Pulling up separate photos, Hardwick asked his guests to come up with how the subject asked to be drawn. At the end of the round, Tompkins took the lead.

In the live challenge of the night, Doggie Style, Hardwick presented his guests with Pornhub’s new feature for the visually impaired. After playing a video clip, he asked the three to come up with their own narration. With 2300 points, Walsh took the lead at the close of this round.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Miranda Rights, the next challenge, Know Your Rights, asked the contestants to name off some of the lesser known Miranda rights. Landing in third place, Brewster was eliminated at the end of the round.

In the night’s For the Win, Hardwick presented Walsh and Tompkins with a Google search by an incredibly polite grandmother, “Please translate Roman numerals mcmxcviii, thank you.” Going off the screen shot, Hardwick asked the two to come up with another overly polite Google searching. Earning the most applause with, “Pip pip, apples and pears. I know you’re busy Mr. Google, but do you happen to know the other searching websites? I’ve got a question for that Ask Jeeves fellow: are you DTF?” Walsh won the internet for the night.
