Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel responded to his father calling him a “druggie” whose life is in danger while partying in Cabo, Mexico.
TMZ noted that Manziel arrived in Mexico earlier this week and drugs were allegedly found at the mansion where he and about 20 other people have been staying. Manziel said that the drugs weren’t his because he is not doing any drugs in Mexico and vowed that he will go completely sober starting July 1.
On Friday, however, Manziel’s father, Paul, told ESPN that his son is a "druggie" who needs to get help.
"He's a druggie. It's not a secret that he's a druggie," Paul Manziel said. "I don't know what to say other than my son is a druggie and he needs help. He just hasn't [sought] it yet. Hopefully he doesn't die before he comes to his senses. That's about all you can say. I don't know what else to say."
The quarterback responded to his father’s comment by posting a pic from Cabo on Instagram with a caption that refers to his old teammate Josh Gordon, who also reportedly had substance abuse problems and was suspended by the NFL over it.
"@flashgordonxii I won't take this thing off for a week," Manziel wrote of Gordon's jersey that he was wearing. "You my brother FOR LIFE. JUST WAIT ON THIS COMEBACK!!!! #CaboWabo #JoshAintHere #hiDad #HappyBdayDaveEvans."
Manziel was released by the Browns in March after several off-the-field incidents. He is still remains unsigned but said he wanted to return to the NFL this year.
