Anton Yelchin's Jeep may have been part of recall, Fiat Chrysler to investigate

Tragedy struck the night of June 18 when Anton Yelchin was killed in a freak accident.

As previously reported, the Star Trek actor was found pinned between his late-model Jeep Grand Cherokee and a brick mailbox.

TheWrap noted Fiat Chrysler said it was still too soon to place blame on the Jeep for Yelchin's death.  However, they did plan to investigate to determine if the jeep did fail, causing the tragic accident.

FCA sent condolences to his family, adding "The company will be conducting a thorough investigation into this tragic incident."

They also said, "It is premature to speculate on its cause at this time."  It appears that Yelchin may have thought he had the car in park when it was actually in neutral.

In April, the 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees were recalled due to complaints.  Vehicle owners had cited "rollaways" after they thought the car was in park. FCA said, “The vehicles involved in these events were inspected and no evidence of equipment failure was found."

After news of his death, celebrities and fellow co-stars remembered the young actor.
