Actress and activist Emma Watson wore a dress made of recycled plastic bottles to the Met Gala on May 2.
The theme of the event was "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology," according to Tech Insider. Most guests at the affair wore different dresses with metallic-like material to represent the theme. However, Watson wore the biggest theme representation with her ensemble in which she made in collaboration with Calvin Klein and the Eco-Age, a company that helps businesses introduce sustainable solutions.
According to Watson's Facebook post, the body of the dress is made from three different fabrics, all woven from yarns made from recycled plastic bottles. The zipper is also made out of recycled materials and the bustier was made from organic cotton.
She continues on her post by saying that plastic is one of the biggest pollutants on the planet.
About 300 million tons of plastic is circulated every year, according to One Green Planet. Even with efforts to recycle, 85 percent of the world's plastic is not recycled, making it's way to oceans and putting 700 marine species in danger.
