Helen Fielding wrote Bridget Jones’s Diary in 1996 and by 2006, the novel had sold over two million copies worldwide. Fielding’s book came to life on the big screen in 2001 with Renée Zellweger playing the title character. Zellweger infamously gained weight to play Bridget and connected with audiences around the world. The film’s popularity greenlit the sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, to be released in 2004. Both Colin Firth and Hugh Grant returned as Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver, respectively, and the battle for Bridget’s heart continued.
In 2015, it was announced that there would be a third Bridget Jones movie. Bridget Jones’s Baby is set to hit theaters on Sept. 16, 2016 and Zellweger and Firth are both returning.
In the new film, Bridget is a TV producer who learns she is pregnant. The problem is Bridget does not know if Mark or her new love interest, Jack Qwant, played by Patrick Dempsey, is the father of her baby.
In honor of the 15th Anniversary of Bridget Jones’s Diary, here are 10 reasons we love Bridget.
