One thing Rumbelle fans have wanted for some time now is for their OTP to have a baby. Well, the wait is finally over! In this episode, Belle found out what we already knew from the end of “Devil’s Due,” that she is pregnant, and that because the child would be Rumple’s second born, it belongs to Hades. She also learned that Rumple is the Dark One once again, all in the span of about two minutes. That’s way more drama than most people could handle in nine months, much less two minutes. Then again, Belle isn’t most people!
Many of us have wanted Belle to be the strong woman that we admired back in the first season of the show. She has been through so much, and for some reason, keeps allowing herself to be duped by Rumple. We applauded her backbone during the season four midseason finale, when she banished Rumple from town, and now it seems she’s got one again.
When Rumple told her what was going on, she replied that she couldn’t condone him being the Dark One. He countered that all she had to do was choose to accept him as the man and the beast, but she stood firm enough to say that she wouldn’t make any choices until he fixed his mess. Perhaps she’s not as headstrong as we’d like at this point, but she also has to reconcile her feelings with the fact that she’s pregnant with his child. You have to hand it to Emilie de Ravin for so effectively and seamlessly portraying Belle’s joy at having a baby, to the horror of it having been sold, to the shock of her husband regaining his dark powers.
