‘Survivor: Kaoh Rong – Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty’ Recap: Week 8

The jocks and the pretty people…

Picking up right where last week ended, the Brains worried about being greatly outnumbered. Since it was obvious that the Beauty tribe had sided with Brawn, the Brains knew they would get picked off one by one. Which was exactly what the Beauty/Brawn alliance planned to do. They decided that come tribal council, the votes would be split between Debbie and Aubry. This way, a Brain member would get voted out, and the idol would also get flushed out in the event Neal left it with his teammates. (As far as I could tell, he didn’t.)

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream…

The reward challenge was a total blowout, to say the least. In this Survivor favorite, each team tried to get one member across the water on wooden posts and then the whole group had to balance on a tiny pedestal to finish. Nick, Scot, Debbie, Tai and Julia worked well together, while the other side completely fell apart. The winners had ice cream delivered to them at camp, mere feet away from the losing team eating rice. But they didn’t gloat about the treats, which was definitely admirable.

Who run the world? Girls…

Tai and some of the female contestants decided to go for a short trip in the boat, leaving Scot, Jason and especially Nick wondering if they were witnessing the beginning of an all-girl alliance. Scot and Jason weren’t too worried about it, but Nick wanted to make sure. As soon as the girls returned, he took Julia off to the side and asked her what happened. Since there was nothing going on, it was a pretty short conversation, but enough to annoy Cydney as she watched it unfold. When Julia and Nick rejoined the others, Cydney called him out on what he did. As a result, Nick became a target in Cydney’s eyes.

Immunity face-off…

For immunity this week, the contestants had to balance on a small perch while holding onto a pair of handles behind their backs. Of course, in order to ease their suffering, Jeff Probst tempted them with food so that they would step down and make the challenge go quicker. Joe, Scot, Michele and Jason didn’t hesitate and began wolfing down pizza, drumsticks, hot dogs, brownies and cold drinks as Cydney and Tai battled it out for the win. In the end, Tai earned immunity.

Stick to the plan…

It seemed the Brains were done for. The seven-member alliance of Beauty/Brawn players agreed that they would split the votes and not stress. Nick, though, decided to reveal the plan to Aubry in order to make sure she voted out Debbie.

Still irritated from what happened earlier, Cydney approached Debbie and Aubry about voting out Nick and they instantly agreed. Cydney then went to make the same pitch to Julia and Michele, Nick’s teammates. They said they would think about it and argued that it would be a big move, but it might backfire since Jason and Scot would then come gunning for them.

An epic blindside…

Nick’s overconfidence was at an all-time high at tribal council as he informed Probst that one of the Brains would get voted out and that the majority alliance would split the votes.

The night’s smack-to-the-head moment came courtesy of Tai revealing the Super Idol twist and how everyone was talking about it. (Sorry, Tai, but they weren’t.) After realizing his mistake, he tried to repair the damage by saying that someone had told him about it and he was pretty sure he was being lied to (though not everyone was convinced).

When the time came, Scot, Jason and Nick stuck to the plan. Tai voted for Jason (it’s not too clear why), but the others pulled off the biggest blindside thus far by voting out a stunned Nick at the first and only tribal council he’s had to attend this season.
