Kesha fans are definitely not going to be happy about this one.
On Wednesday, Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich officially rebuffed Kesha's request to be released from her contract with Sony and Dr. Luke.
According to the court documents obtained by E! News, the judge denied Kesha's appeal, meaning Kesha will remain signed with Sony and cannot be released without the company's approval.
The NYC judge accused the singer of being "unreasonable" when Sony was "ready, willing and able to approve a producer with whom Kesha can work other than [Luke]."
For those of you who need some catching up on the case, here's a little background information:
In 2014, Kesha sued music producer Lukasz Gottwald for sexual assault and battery, wanting to be released from her contract with both him and Sony.
Dr. Luke then filed a countersuit against her, claiming that her allegations were "defamatory" and said that he did not rape Kesha and never had sex with her.
Then, back in February of 2015, Kesha filed for a preliminary injunction that would allow her to record without Sony records and Dr. Luke.
Now that we're all caught up, let's get back to the judge's most recent ruling.
Kesha made the argument that Dr. Luke committed a hate crime against her and because of that, she should've been able to be released from Sony.
The judge disagreed and argued against Kesha's claims, saying, "Although [Dr. Luke’s] alleged actions were directed to Kesha, who is female, [her claims] do not allege that [Luke] harbored animus toward women or was motivated by gender animus when he allegedly behaved violently toward Kesha," according to the Daily Beast.
USA Today points out that the judge concluded her argument by saying, "Every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime."
On April 3, the singer made a special promise to her fans who have supported her throughout her trial.
"So. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie," she wrote alongside a selfie of her looking somber on Instagram. "I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again."
Dr. Luke has claimed that Kesha's Instagram post is "false" and that she is already able to record without him. He also said that the singer did not present any facts to support those claims.
Kesha has not yet expressed her feelings on the final verdict, but we can assume she is not in high spirits.
