20th Century Fox pulls out of Comic Con main event to prevent piracy

20th Century Fox Movie Studios is attempting to prevent piracy over their upcoming films by pulling out of Comic-Con, which is what they have done in the past over the same fears.

TheWrap reported the studio were concerned over not being able to provide protection for movie footage that would otherwise have just been exclusively for the San Diego event.

While they would not be at the convention’s main event, they would still be at smaller events, including one for their collaboration with DreamWorks Animation for the movie Trolls.

The source also claimed Walt Disney would possibly skip the main event as well, but a rep for the company said the claim was false.

Over the last couple of years, Fox dealt with numerous leaks of their films, including Deadpool, Fantastic Four and footage from Suicide Squad.

After footage from the third film was leaked to fans from SDCC, the studio posted the footage on their YouTube Channel to possibly try to regain control.

They had told TheWrap then they didn’t want the footage seen anywhere else but Comic Con, so it is no surprise they are trying to protect their upcoming films this year.
