Doris Roberts, best known as the abrasive mother-in-law on Everybody Loves Raymond, has passed away at age 90.
TMZ was the first to report the news. She died on Sunday in Los Angeles and is survived by a son from her first marriage, Michael Cannata Jr.
At 90-years-old, Roberts had a successful career as an actress in not only television but movies including Grandma’s Boy and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
Born Nov. 4, 1925, Roberts was not just a television actress, but she also worked on Broadway for 20 years before working in film and television in the ‘70s.
For her role as Ray Romano’s mother, Marie, Roberts won four Emmys and had a total of five.
Romano paid tribute to his onscreen mom saying she “had an energy and spirit that amazed me. She never stopped. Whether working professional or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly.”
Patricia Heaton, who played her daughter-in-law, wrote a touching tribute to the woman who she described as “a consummate professional from whom I learned so much.”
