Comedienne and The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg has announced a new medical marijuana company with self-described "canna-businesswoman" Maya Elisabeth. The company, Maya & Whoopi, will provide edibles, rubs and even a THC-infused bath soak meant to help relieve menstrual cramps.
“For me, I feel like if you don’t want to get high high, this is a product specifically just to get rid of discomfort. Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work," Goldberg told Vanity Fair. “I have grown granddaughters who have severe cramps, so I said this is what I want to work on," she said.
This is not the first time Goldberg has gone on record singing the praises of medical marijuana. In a column she wrote for The Cannabist in 2014, Goldberg described how her vape pen (which she affectionately calls Sippy) helped her transition from smoking cigarettes and now also reduces pain from headaches induced by her glaucoma.
The product line will include items made with marijuana and also cannabidiol (CBD), a substance that does not give the "high" for which marijuana is notorious. Because of federal anti-marijuana legislation and laws against the substance in other states, the line, due out in April, will only be available in California.
