A two-year-old girl from Greenville, South Carolina called 911 for a wardrobe emergency on March 2.
Little Aaliyah Garrett was having trouble putting on her pants and decided to call 911 for help, according to Inside Edition. Her grandfather answered the door and tried to explain to Deputy Martha Lohnes that there was no emergency. Little did he know, Aaliyah was hopping towards the door with only half her pants on. She waved at the deputy while trying to put on her pants.
Noticing the problem, Lohnes decided to help her out. After that, Lohnes helped Aaliyah with her shoes. When she was done, Aaliyah rewarded the deputy with a hug.
"She jumped in my arms and wouldn't let me go," she told Inside Edition.
It's very common for children to call 911 accidentally, according to Lohnes. "We normally sit them down and say, 'Hey, this is for emergencies only,' but she was only two," she said. "I was impressed that she could dial at all."
Pebbles Ryan, Aaliyah's mom, returned home from work after she got the call about her daughter's emergency, according to WSPA.
“I came home to 'Oh, the police helped your daughter put pants on.' I was like, 'OH! Ok?' Then she wouldn’t let any of the police leave because she wanted hugs,” Ryan told WSPA.
Ryan also explained that she teaches Aaliyah how to use a cell phone and dial 911. “We’ve pointed out the numbers but it completely surprised me that she actually did it,” she said.
Lohnes was definitely touched by the event.
