Tina Fey calls the political messages at the Oscars 'Hollywood bullshit'

This year's Oscars was one of the most political in history and Tina Fey was not a huge fan of all the speeches about social issues.

In an interview with The Howard Stern Show, Fey claimed that being at the Oscars made her glad she lives in New York and not California.

"Halfway through, I was like 'This is some real Hollywood bullshit,'" she said. "Everyone's telling me what to do. People are yelling at me about rape and corporate greed, but really it's climate change, and I was like 'Guys, pick a lane.' Like we’re going to fix everything tonight."

She went on to call out actors who complain about corporate greed at events, saying, "You're all rich, why are you yelling at me about corporate greed?"

In addition to the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, many participants at the Academy Awards brought political themes into their speeches. For example, The Big Short director Adam McKay told viewers not to vote for any presidential candidate that takes money from big banks and Leonardo DiCaprio discussed climate change after winning the award for best actor, as we previously reported. Fey did go on to compliment DiCaprio on that saying she's always excited when someone is articulate on issues like these because "let's face it, actors are very stupid."

Fey's comment was not meant to disparage Chris Rock, however. She told Howard Stern that she thought Rock did a fantastic job as host and she didn't understand people who were upset that he went too far. She compared the reaction to ordering spaghetti at the Cheesecake Factory and then being upset at the portion size.

“This is what you ordered,” Fey joked. “You wanted this.”

Tina Fey's new movie, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, opens on March 4.
