Sophie Turner says 'Game of Thrones' season 6 is Sansa's best year ever

Sansa Stark fans are going to be very pleased with the new season of Game of Thrones, according to Sophie Turner.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Turner expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming stretch of episodes on HBO.

“This is the season I’m most excited for," she explained. "Sansa’s coming into her own and standing up for herself.”

Several other members of the Game of Thrones crew made similar comments including showrunner Dan Weiss  who stated that "Sophie really delivers this season," noting the character goes places she has never gone before. In addition writer and producer Bryan Cogman doubled down on this assessment, arguing that Turner does her best work ever this year.

This should come as great news to those who complained about Sansa's role in season 5. After a storyline in which the character is raped by Ramsay Bolton, many felt the series had gone too far and had stripped her of any agency. Those fans were only further incensed when Sansa was ultimately saved by Theon Grejoy, not getting a chance to accomplish much on her own.

The Sansa rape controversy evidently had an effect on the writing of season 6, as we previously reported. According to director Jeremy Podeswa, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss “were responsive to the discussion and there were a couple of things that changed as a result.”

Game of Thrones season 6 will premiere on April 24.
