The Songwriters Hall of Fame announced its 2016 class of inductees, which is highlighted by the additions of Tom Petty, Elvis Costello and the late Marvin Gaye.
In addition to those three, the Hall of Fame is adding Chip Taylor and the team of Nile Rodgers and the late Bernard Edwards. They will be honored in a ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City on June 9.
“The 2016 roster of Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees is a beautiful mosaic of the best of late 20th Century popular music,” SHOF co-chairs Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff said in a statement. “With creators of Rock & Roll, Soul/R&B, Country and Funk/Dance represented, we are looking forward to an unforgettable and extremely exciting event and evening at the Marriott Marquis on June 9th.”
