Harper Woods, Michigan shopping mall shuts down due to Air Jordan release

Eastland Center in Harper Woods, Mi. near Detroit was shut down on March 5 in the morning, thanks to an aggressive crowd after the release of the new Air Jordan Retro 12.

The doors at the Kids Foot Locker opened around 8 a.m., according to Detroit Free Press. Some more eager crowd members had waited since 12 a.m. They rushed into the store, broke the lock and started shoving people to get inside. Some screams were heard throughout the mall and police shut down the mall right away.

According to William McClure, the general manager at Eastland Center, the mall reopened around 10 a.m. However, the same thing happened and the mall was shut down again.

"Both times, it was shut down by the police for public safety ... all over a tennis shoe," McClure said. "It's frustrating. It got unruly, the police shut it down."

"We tried to do the best we can," he added.

It became so bad that the Kids Foot Locker put up a sign in the front of the store saying, "Kids Foot Locker Eastland will not be selling any Retro 12's.  Thank you."

A Champs store in the same mall had a similar commotion in their store. To prevent it from getting worse, they kept their doors shut and handed out raffle tickets to customers to get into the store.

The new sneakers are the Air Jordan 12 Retro "Vivid Pink" and their set price is $140, according to Click on Detroit.
