Sara Bareilles entertains audience during 'Waitress' technical difficulty

Sara Bareilles to the rescue.

According to Playbill, Bareilles had to step in during an evening preview of the new Broadway show Waitress. Bareilles, who wrote the music and lyrics for the show based on the 2007 film, gave a mini concert to fans after a technical issue.

Bareilles sang a song from Waitress called “Down at the Diner” and “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid to entertain the crowd. After her performance, she took to Instagram to share a picture from the show.

“Technical difficulty at the Brooks. So Ariel. #waitress,” she captioned a selfie of her and the crowd at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.

The new Broadway play was announced last August and is directed by Hair’s Diane Paulus. The show follows “Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker, [who] is stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna must weigh her commitments against a rare shot at freedom and recognition. Her customers, co-workers and the town’s handsome new doctor all offer her conflicting recipes for happiness — but Jenna must ultimately decide for herself.”

Waitress is set to hit Broadway later this year.
