Robert Griffin III signs with Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns may have found their quarterback as Robert Griffin III signed with the team on March 24.

According to ESPN, the deal is for two years at $15 million and includes $6.75 million guaranteed. Griffin can make up to $11 million in incentives. He got a $3.5 million signing bonus and has a guaranteed base salary of $3.25 million this year.

"This isn't about me, to be honest with you. I just want to go out and help this team win football games," Griffin said. "I believe in what Coach Hue is preaching. I believe in Pep Hamilton and what they plan to do. That's really what it's about for me. It's about the team, it's about Coach believing in this team and the city. Otherwise, he wouldn't have [taken] the job. And if he didn't believe in what I could do, he wouldn't have brought me to Cleveland with him. I'm just real excited about the opportunity. It's not about me or my career. It's about this team and growing with this team, and that's what I set out to do."

Griffin was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 2012. He was released by the team on March 7. In his rookie year he won nine games, threw for 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns and ran for more than 800 yards. He threw for a combined 4,897 yards and 20 touchdowns and had 18 interceptions in 2013 and 2014, according to NFL.com. Last August, he lost the starting job and was active for only one game as Washington’s number three quarterback.

The Browns needed a quarterback after they released Johnny Manziel. Griffin joins Josh McCown, Austin Davis and Connor Shaw as quarterbacks on the Browns roster. The team is also looking at Jared Goff and Carson Wentz and could draft another quarterback.
