Since The Jungle Book takes place in India, Disney is hoping to score big there and has just nabbed one of the country’s biggest international stars for the Hindi version of the film.
Priyanka Chopra, who stars on ABC’s freshman hit Quantico, announced on March 18 that she contributed her voice to the Hindi-dubbed version. She will be the voice of Kaa the snake, who is voiced by Scarlett Johansson in the English-language version.
“The Jungle Book was one of my favourite parts of my childhood & now I get to be in it as the voice of Kaa! Wooopiee!” Chopra wrote on Facebook. She also included a trailer for the Hindi version.
The Jungle Book was directed by Iron Man’s Jon Favreau and is based on the Rudyard Kipling stories, which Disney previously adapted as an animated film in 1967. The English cast also includes Bill Murray, Idris Elba and Ben Kingsley. It opens on April 15 in the U.S. and April 8 in India.
Newcomer Neel Sethi stars as Mowgli.
