Viacom’s Nickelodeon doesn’t just have plans to revive its beloved ‘90s cartoons, but also hopes to revive one of its game shows. The network announced plans to make a TV movie based on Legends of the Hidden Temple.
The plan will be unveiled before advertisers at Nick’s upfront on March 2. Nick will also show off plans for ‘happy reality’ shows like All In with quarterback Cam Newton and Crashletes, a show with viral sports clips.
“There’s a tremendous amount of attention on kids these days. What that says is there’s a tremendous amount of opportunity – not unlike what is going on in the grownup space,” Cyma Zarghami, who leads Viacom’s children networks, told Variety today. “There is just more content everywhere.”
Legends was originally a game show that ran from 1993 to 1995, notes TVLine. Hosted by Kirk Fogg, the show had six pairs of contestants going through challenges to make it through the Temple. The movie will integrate familiar elements from the original game show and will star Isabela Moner.
The Legends movie will air later this year.
Meanwhile, Nick is still working on a Hey Arnold! movie. There were also rumors in January that Paramount and Nick were developing some sort of theatrical movie that would mash together all of Nick’s ‘90s cartoon characters.
