‘Modern Family’ star Sarah Hyland joins ABC’s ‘Dirty Dancing’ remake

ABC is keeping Sarah Hyland busy. The Modern Family star has joined the network’s Dirty Dancing remake.

Hyland will star as Lisa Houseman, the role played by Jane Brucker in the classic 1987 film, reports Deadline. If you need a refresher, the character is Baby’s older sister.

On March 1, former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger joined the made-for-TV movie. She will play Johnny’s dancing partner, who is pregnant. That role was played by Cynthia Rhodes.

The Dirty Dancing remake will star Abigail Breslin as Baby and Colt Prattes as Johnny. Debra Messing was also cast as Baby’s mother. The movie is being directed by The Sapphires’ Wayne Blair, with original screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein as an executive producer.

ABC has yet to announce when this will air.

Hyland has played Haley Dunphy on Modern Family since the show started in 2009. She’s also voicing a character in Disney’s Lion King sequel series The Lion Guard.
