Good news for fans hoping that J.K. Simmons will reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson in the Spiderman reboot: the actor has stated that he would consider it.
J.K. Simmons told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the Film Independent Awards that while he is not currently slated to play the character, he certainly would not say no.
When asked whether he was aware that there was a petition for him to be recast as Jameson in the 2017 Spiderman reboot, he responded, "That petition does not come from anybody that's in a position to actually do anything about it," but also addressed whether or not he'd be willing to reprise the role: "I think doing those movies with [director] Sam [Raimi] was one of the great joys of my career, and it was a super-fun character, so I'd never close the door on anything."
The Change.org petition to recast J.K. Simmons as the iconic Daily Bugle editor currently has 2,029 supporters. Simmons' upcoming projects include Partriots' Day, a drama based about the Boston Marathon bombing, in which, as we previously reported, he was cast last month. The film will co-star Massachusetts native Mark Wahlberg.
