Halle Berry is in talks to star in 'Kingsman 2'

Another major actress may be joining the upcoming sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service.

According to Deadline, Halle Berry is in talks for a lead role in 20th Century Fox's Kingsman 2, in which she would be playing the head of the CIA. This would be part of a two-picture deal between Berry and Fox.

Kingsman could be Berry's chance to lead another box office hit, as many of her recent films, including Cloud Atlas and The Call, were financial disappointments. The casting news comes about a month after the spy sequel added Julianne Moore as its villain, as we previously reported. We don't know much about her character yet, but Taron Egerton has said that the antagonist “is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it.”

Kingsman 2 is expected to begin filming next month and it's aiming for a June 2017 release date. Matthew Vaughn will return as director, and speaking of returns, there remains a possibility that Colin Firth will appear in the sequel. While that might sound impossible considering his character was killed off in the first movie, Vaughn told USA Today that he may be back, somehow.

"A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment," Vaughn said. "If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back."

And they certainly did buy tickets in America. Kingsman: The Secret Service made $128 million at the domestic box office and $414 million overall, according to Box Office Mojo.

Kingsman 2 hits theaters on June 16, 2017.
