Ellen DeGeneres' game show 'Heads Up' cancelled despite having filmed 65 episodes

The Ellen DeGeneres produced game show Heads Up has been cancelled, even though it had already filmed 65 episodes.

According to Variety, HLN has decided it will no longer air the series, which would have been broadcast Monday through Friday. The show, hosted by The Real's Loni Love, was a spinoff of the popular Ellen DeGeneres Show segment in which guests act out words and phrases for Ellen to guess. The game also spawned a popular app.

This move is the latest in a series of dramatic events behind the scenes at HLN, CNN's sister network. At the moment, the channel primarily airs news coverage and episodes of Nancy Grace, but back in 2013, Viacom executive Albie Hecht was hired to give it a new social-media focus. Hecht quit last year after CNN President Jeff Zucker decided HLN would instead primarily rebroadcast CNN's non-fiction content, according to Deadline. It seems as if Zucker, as well as HLN's new president Ken Jautz, intend to severely cut back on originally programming, which explains this sudden cancellation.

Though Heads Up will not air on HLN, DeGeneres' A Very Good Production can now shop the series around to other interested parties. Considering the work that already went in to filming 65 full episodes, let's hope they're able to find a new home.
