Aasif Mandvi joins Netflix's 'A Series of Unfortunate Events'

Netflix's adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events has just found its Montgomery Montgomery.

According to Deadline, comedian Aasif Mandvi will portray Dr. Montgomery Montgomery, the orphans' uncle and a famed herpetologist. He's also the Baudelaires' second guardian, introduced in The Reptile Room. Montgomery was played by Bill Connolly in the 2004 film.

Mandvi is perhaps most well known for his time as correspondent on The Daily Show, which he joined in 2006. He has also appeared in films such as The Internship, The Last Airbender, Million Dollar Arm and The Dictator, and he also wrote, produced and starred on HBO's The Brink.

This is the latest addition to the cast since Neil Patrick Harris was confirmed as Count Olaf, as we previously reported. In addition, Patrick Warburton will voice narrator Lemony Snicket, and Violet and Klaus will be played by Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes respectively.

Based on the popular children's book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events follows three children who are sent to live with a mysterious relative after their parents' sudden death. The story encompasses 13 books, released from 1999 to 2006 and written by Daniel Handler, who is also a producer on the Netflix show.
