'X-Files Origins' book series to follow Mulder and Scully as teenagers

Though the new X-Files season wraps up tonight, fans can look forward to more of the story in book form next year.

According to Entertainment Weekly, two young adult novels are in the works that will follow the show's protagonists as teenagers. X-Files OriginsAgent of Chaos, written by Kami Garcia (Beautiful Creatures), revolves around a 17-year-old Fox Mulder in the spring of 1979. Meanwhile, X-Files Origins: Devil’s Advocate, written by Marvel comics writer Jonathan Maberry, follows a 15-year-old Dana Scully during the same time period. Both characters experience events that will send them down the path to becoming FBI agents.

“As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me," said Macmillan's Erin Stein. "Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories.”

Both Agent of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate will hit shelves on the same day in Jan. 2017. As for more of adult Mulder and Scully, it remains possible that we'll see another season on Fox.  The network has expressed interest in additional episodes if a deal can be reached with the actors and producers, according to Variety.
