Total Beauty thought it had learned something new about Oprah Winfrey, until they realized it was actually Whoopi Goldberg. Unfortunately, they already tweeted about it before figuring it out.
According to The Huffington Post, the beauty site tweeted a photo of the host of The View in a black ball gown. "We had no idea @Oprah was tatted, and we love it. #Oscars," the caption read. The tweet has since been deleted, but not before the rest of the Twitterverse got a hold of it. Needless to say, jokes and commentary were in abundance.

Mistaking Whoopi Goldberg for Oprah is egregiously disrespectful #Oscars

Whoopi Goldberg: Oscar boycotting is a load of crap, we African-Americans need to show our faces.

White people can tell these men apart but not OPRAH AND WHOOPI GOLDBERG? #Oscars pic.twitter.com/3wZcAhBhy3

The Huffington Post reports that before it was deleted, the tweet got over 2,000 retweets and 1,000 likes. Total Beauty took a brief hiatus from tweeting about the Oscars, and then posted this apology.
We’d like to apologize to Oprah and Whoopi, as well as everyone we’ve offended. It was our error, and there are no excuses. We’re sorry.

They owned up to the mistake, saying, "there are no excuses." Unfortunately, Twitter didn't totally warm up to their expression of remorse. Some people even went so far as to imply that the mistake was an intentional ploy by Total Beauty to get attention.
@TotalBeauty why are you hiding Facebook posts that criticize this mistake? Own up to it. Do better.

@TotalBeauty Y'all did that for attention. Know damn well that wasn't Oprah. They don't even remotely look alike to mistake their identities

At this point, the only question left to ask is, how did this happen?
