USC athletic director Pat Haden to retire in June

University of Southern California athletic director Pat Haden will retire on June 30, school president Max Nikias announced on Friday.

According to the Associated Press, Haden will have a one-year job guiding the renovation of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum after he retires. The Coliseum will be the temporary home for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams in the fall. The team is moving from St. Louis to Los Angeles.

"It has been a tremendous honor serving my alma mater, a school I love so much, as well as serving Max Nikias, our coaches and staff and, most importantly, our student-athletes,” Haden said. "I am proud of what has been accomplished here the past six years and knowing that USC Athletics is on an upward trajectory. I look forward to finishing out this academic year as athletic director and then spending time on the Coliseum project."

Haden became USC’s athletic director in 2010 replacing Mike Garrett. Last October, he stepped down from the College Football Playoff committee due to health concerns. As USC’s athletic director he created a large NCAA compliance program, improved graduation rates and grade point averages across the athletic department and raised over $400 million for the athletic department, according to USA Today.

The school won 10 national championships during Haden’s tenure, which is second only to the University of Florida.

USC has not yet named his replacement.
