‘Survivor: Kaoh Rong – Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty’ Recap: Week 2

After last week’s tribal council…

The Brawn tribe returned to camp after voting out Darnell and tried to get a fire going. Even with the help of flint, though, they weren’t successful. So in an effort to prove her worth to the team after narrowly escaping the vote, Alecia attempted to start a fire with Jennifer. According to Alecia, they “had an embryo, but it went out.” This is when Kyle and Scot turned to each other and said Alecia would definitely be voted out next. It’s still up in the air because either Alecia’s the weakest link or because she doesn’t know the difference between “ember” and “embryo.” All joking aside, though, she did spend more than five hours the next day working to build a fire and her perseverance paid off.

Anything you can do, I can do better…

The Brains tribe had no trouble getting their fire started, thanks to the handy-dandy fire-making kit they won at the previous immunity challenge. They did, however, struggle not to lose patience with Debbie’s not-so-humble bragging about her multitude of skills and abilities, especially her power of determining whether water is safe to drink just by looking at it.

As a Survivor fan from the very beginning, this is the first time I’ve ever witnessed contestants drinking unboiled water and getting annoyed with people who are afraid they’ll get parasites if they drink it that way. I’m looking at you, Joe and Debbie.

Last week I mentioned that there was a clear division in the Brains tribe based on age, with the older folks outnumbered by the younger crowd. It looks like things won’t be changing any time soon on that front. Remember that fire-making kit I mentioned above? Well the matches became wet, as did the wood and most of the kerosene was gone, too, thanks to Joe who left the bottle tilted on its side after using a third of it on their first fire. So the older contestants are not exactly helping their cause.

A budding bro-mance…

Things were a bit calmer over on the Beauty tribe. Country boy Caleb and gardener Tai have really formed a tight bond. As we learned from the reel, Tai cuddles with Caleb for warmth at night, teaches him to care for all living creatures big and small and even tries to steal kisses from him.

When he wasn’t with his bestie, though, Tai was busy tracking down the hidden immunity idol. Last week, he got caught by his teammates, but his instincts to search in or around a certain part of the woods paid off. First, he found the clues and then he located the idol up in a tree. Unfortunately, he couldn’t climb up all the way like Ozzy did during his seasons, instead returning to camp with lots of cuts and scrapes from trying. I wonder how he explained these to the others?

Another thrilling challenge…

At stake in tonight’s immunity challenge was fishing gear. The team to finish first would receive a well-stocked kit, along with a boat. The team to finish second would receive a slightly smaller kit, but not the boat. It was an evenly-matched competition throughout, but in the end the Brawn tribe was bested by both Beauty and Brains. Again. So much for stereotypes…

Making moves…

Back at camp, Kyle, Scot, Jennifer and Cydney all agreed that Alecia would be the next person to go. However, Kyle’s downright rude comments about Alecia and blond stereotypes rubbed Jennifer the wrong way. She approached Alecia to form an all-girls alliance and get rid of Kyle. Alecia couldn’t believe she would escape the chopping block once again. After seeing Alecia and Jennifer together, Kyle became suspicious that something was going to happen. Scot later reminded Jennifer to stay loyal to their alliance. This caused Jennifer to realize she couldn’t blindside Kyle without also blindsiding Scot, whom she likes very much.

Digging a hole for one’s self…

It’s one thing to scramble before tribal council, but it’s usually never a good idea to repeat exactly what happened, especially with Jeff Probst looking on. That’s a lesson that will probably haunt Jennifer forever. She stupidly admitted that “things were up in the air” for her earlier that afternoon, shocking Kyle and Scot who thought their alliance was solid.

To redeem herself, Jennifer said that it was Alecia who had approached her with the idea of an all-girls alliance. (Liar, liar, pants on fire.) Unfortunately, Jennifer continued to run her mouth and contradict her own arguments, which just had Scot and Kyle laughing at the absurdity of the situation. Even Probst’s jaw dropped–that’s saying a lot, considering he’s seen it all.

So what started out as a no-brainer vote led to a shocking elimination when Jennifer became the second contestant voted out this season.
