Stephen King's 'The Mist' is heading to TV as Spike orders pilot

Stephen King's The Mist is officially heading to television.

Spike announced in a press release that it has ordered the pilot episode of The Mist, based on the Stephen King novella of the same name. The pilot will be produced by Dimension Television, and Christian Torpe (Rita) serves as executive producer.

This is Spike's first pilot order since the network's shift from reality programming to scripted television.

“We are thrilled to join forces with the incredibly creative Christian Torpe and Dimension Films to develop Stephen King’s enthralling novella to a compelling series unlike anything else on television,” Spike Executive Vice President of Original Series Sharon Levy said in a statement.

This will also be the second television series from Dimension Television, the studio that produced Scream on MTV last year. A second season of that show is now in the works.

King's story about a mysterious mist that spreads across a small town and brings blood-thirsty monsters with it was originally adapted on screen in the 2007 movie from Frank Darabont. When The Mist was first being discussed for television, it was reported to be a 10-part series that Darabont would be involved in, according to The New York Times. However, it does not appear Darabont will have any role in this Spike show.
