Saoirse Ronan joins ‘On Chesil Beach’ from ‘Carol’ producers

Saoirse Ronan has signed on for another project. The Brooklyn actress will star in On Chesil Beach, an adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel.

The film will be produced by Number 9 Films’ Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley, reports Deadline. Ronan previously worked with the producers on Byzantium. Number 9 most recently co-produced Todd Haynes’ Carol.

Filming will start this fall. On Chesil Beach is set in 1962 England, where two lovers have their lives changed by simple, often wordless, gestures and misunderstandings. It will be the first film directed by Dominic Cooke, who directed the TV mini-series The Hollow Crown with Tom Hiddleston.

Ronan was just nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Brooklyn, another period piece about young lovers. Last month, she joined Lady Bird, the directing debut for actress Greta Gerwig.

Aside from Brooklyn, Ronan’s credits include Atonement, Hanna, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Host.
