Former Saturday Night Live star Nasim Pedrad is staying with Fox for what might be the strangest pilot of the year.
Pedrad will play a teenage boy in the middle of puberty who suddenly becomes the man of the house in a Middle Eastern family. The pilot is called Chad: An American Boy.
“I’m thrilled to be able to portray a Middle Eastern family not working for or against Jack Bauer on network TV,” Pedrad told Variety in a statement. “Also, a big thank you to Fox for understanding that my true essence is that of an awkward and misguided 14-year-old boy.”
Pedrad, who was born in Tehran, is hoping to show a realistic Iranian American family on television to also highlight the realities of being an immigrant family in the U.S. today. However, Pedrad, who co-wrote the pilot, wants to make sure that the show is relatable to teens who struggle to fit in.
Pedrad was among the stand-out SNL castmembers from 2009 to 2014. She’s also a member of the large group of former SNLers to ditch NBC for Fox. She starred on Mulaney and Scream Queens and occasionally pops up on New Girl. Pedrad made a deal with Fox in 2015 to star in a show.
