A Maryland man who has a very similar number to that of the one Chipotle provided to receive a free burrito when stores across the country were closed for a mandatory food safety meeting on Feb. 8 was inundated with text messages all day.
Chipotle offered anyone who texted “RAINCHECK” to 888-222 would get a free burrito for the inconvenience of the 2,000 stores closing, but anyone who accidentally added another 2 to the end of that number ended up texting a man named Hank Levine.
Levine told ABC News he got over 200 messages in total on Monday. When he replied with a “?” to the first person to text him around 9am, they replied, “I want my burrito.”
He added that he’s still getting “RAINCHECK” texts but now that the word is out that he’s getting mistaken for the wrong number, a lot of them are now “Oh, you poor guy!”
For the mix-up, Levine said Chipotle offered him coupons for free meals.
