Louis C.K. drops surprise show 'Horace and Pete' with Steve Buscemi

Now that it's in vogue for music superstars to drop surprise albums, comedian Louis C.K. is taking that trend to television. The Louie creator shocked everyone on Jan. 30 by suddenly releasing the first episode of a new show called Horace and Pete.

The 67-minute episode was posted on C.K.'s website and costs $5 to download. The series stars Steve Buscemi, who plays the Pete in the title, and C.K., who is Horace. Edie Falco and Saturday Night Live's Aidy Bryant also have roles.

The New York Times review describes the show as a darker version of a Norman Lear sitcom, with plenty of profanity. Paul Simon contributed a guitar theme and has lyrics for the closing credits. It also takes place on the day before the 2016 Iowa caucuses at a dive bar in Brooklyn.

It's not clear what C.K.'s plans are for the show. In his email to fans, C.K. offered no other details. "We hope you like it," is all he wrote.

C.K. also has FX's Louie, which is going on a break before its next season. He's also a producer on Baskets with Zach Galifianakis. The comedian also had a supporting tole in Trumbo in 2015.
