Keira Knightley has found another period drama to star in. She will play French writer Colette in a new biopic.
The new film will simply be titled Colette and centers on her first marriage to Willy Gauthier-Villars, who apparently forced her to write novels for him, which he published under his name. However, they were both famous figures in Paris, notes Variety. Colette lived through both World Wars and wrote her most famous book, Gigi, in 1944. The story later became a play and the Best Picture Oscar-winning musical film.
According to Deadline, which first reported on the project, Knightley is in talks to star as Colette. The film will be directed by WAsh Westmoreland, who co-wrote the script with his late Still Alice collaborator Richard Glatzer. Number 9 films and Killer Films, which worked together on Carol, is producing.
Bold Films is financing and co-producing. Production will take place in Budapest in May.
Knightley was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for The Imitation Game last year. She also starred in Everest in 2015.
