Kathie Lee Gifford never intended to return to television after 'Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee'

Kathie Lee Gifford has revealed that she did not want to get back into television after leaving Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee in 2000.

In recent interview Gifford told DuJour Magazine, “I was actively pursuing not coming back to TV. I thought that I had done the best 15 years of television I could possibly do with Regis-- we changed the face of daytime television and we became a phenomenon at the time-- and when I left in 2000, it was to follow interests I hadn’t had the time for."

In 2008, however, Today's Hoda Kotb, Natalie Morales and Amy Rosenbaum tried to persuade Gifford to join them on NBC.

“I was flattered and deeply grateful, but I was 55 at the time and I just thought, ‘Wow, how times have changed. Somebody was interested in a post-menopausal woman — and a has-been at that,'" Gifford said.

After many calls requesting Gifford to attend Today meetings, she made her way back to TV hosting.

Gifford returned to television to host the fourth hour of Today with Kotb and has continued to do so for the past seven years, Us Weekly noted.
