Julianne Moore is reportedly in talks to join 20th Century Fox’s sequel to last year’s surprise hit Kingsman: The Secret Service.
The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter today. She would play the new villain to face Taron Egerton.
While details about the villain are still a mystery, Egerton said in an interview with Collider last month that the new villain “is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it.”
Kingsman 2 will be directed by Matthew Vaughn, who also helmed the first one. The franchise is based on the comics created by Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Dave Gibbons (Watchmen). There was talk that somehow, Colin Firth would come back, even though his character died in the first film. THR reports that this idea has been trashed.
Moore is an Oscar-winner for Still Alice and starred as President Coin in the Hunger Games series. She has several projects in the works, including Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck, so that might make it hard for her to sign on for Kingsman 2.
Production on Kingsman 2 will start this summer so the film can hit theaters in June 2017.
