Cartoon Network has released the first footage of the upcoming The Powerpuff Girls reboot.
In a clip released on Cartoon Network's YouTube account, we see the brand new Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup for the first time. Buttercup isn't having it when a "manly man" calls her a "princess."
This reboot was announced back in 2014, nine years after the original series went off the air, as we previously reported. At the time, the network said they were excited to bring the three heroines back for a new generation.
The Powerpuff Girls revival features an all new cast of voice actors, though, and not everyone is happy about that. Tara Strong, the original voice of Bubbles, was quite upset that she wasn't asked to return. In response to Cartoon Network's announcement, Strong tweeted, "I don't remember ordering a stab in the heart today."
She later added that she couldn't imagine The Powerpuff Girls without creator Craig McCracken's involvement. Indeed, McCracken is not on board with the reboot at all, and instead the show is being produced by Nick Jennings (Adventure Time, Regular Show). However, McCracken did give Cartoon Network his approval to make the series. The cast will consist of Amanda Leighton, Kristen Li and Natalie Palamides as Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, respectively.
The Powerpuff Girls will premiere this spring on Cartoon Network.
