Hannibal Buress to star in 'Baywatch' with Dwayne Johnson

Comedy Central star Hannibal Buress may soon be taking a short vacation from his breakout series Why? with Hannibal Buress. The reason? Burress is in negotiations to appear alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron in the new Baywatch film.

On Feb. 12, The Hollywood Reporter first reported that Buress was in final talks to appear in the film, which Johnson will also co-produce. As we previously reported, Alexandra Daddario and model Kelly Rohrbach have also signed on to star in the updated version of the 1990s TV series.

Buress took to his Instagram to share the good news, posting a screencap of Variety's coverage and thanking fans for their support.

You voted. You got it. Thank you America.

In addition to his Comedy Central series, earlier this month Buress released a comedy special via Netflix entitled Comedy Camisado.

Baywatch hits theaters on May 19, 2017 and is being directed by Horrible Bosses' Seth Gordon.
