Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his right foot the team announced on Tuesday.
According to Fox Sports, Gasol was injured on Feb. 8 and was diagnosed with a non-displaced Type II fracture of the navicular bone. He had surgery on Feb. 20 and is expected to make a full recovery. It is unknown if Gasol will be able to participate in the Olympics in Rio this summer.
"It is frustrating to not be on the court with my teammates at this time," Gasol said in a statement. "But I understand that the focus of this process is on long-term health and stability. I look forward to the road ahead and a full and successful recovery."
Gasol signed a five-year contract with the Grizzlies last July after making the All-Star game last year. He is the first Grizzlies player to be voted to the All-NBA first team. He averaged 16.6 points, seven rebounds, and 3.8 assists this season, according to ESPN.
The Grizzlies, who have made the playoffs each of the last five seasons, are 32-23 and are in fifth place in the Western Conference.
