The 58th Annual Grammy Awards were held last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with LL Cool J hosting. Although the show was jam packed with performances, there were some Grammys actually handed out.
Rapper Kendrick Lamar, who gave a fiery performance during the show, swept the rap categories thanks to To Pimp A Butterfly and the hit “Alright.” Lamar’s wins came for: Best Rap Performance (“Alright”); Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (“These Walls” with Bilal, Anna Wise & Thundercat); Best Rap Song (“Alright”) and Best Rap Album (To Pimp A Butterfly).
Taylor Swift took home three awards and they were all big ones. She won Best Music Video (“Bad Blood”); Best Pop Vocal Album (1989) and Album of the Year (1989).
Mark Ronson’s smash hit “Uptown Funk” with Bruno Mars was named Record of the Year. Song of the Year went to “Thinking Out Loud,” written by Ed Sheeran and Amy Wadge. “All About That Bass” singer Meghan Trainor won Best New Artist and Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” recording won Best Pop Solo Performance. “Uptown Funk” also won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Justin Bieber won his first Grammy ever for “Where Are U Now” with Skrillex and Diplo, as the song won Best Dance Recording.
Alabama Shakes dominated the rock categories, winning Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for “Don’t Wanna Fight.” Sound & Color won Best Alternative Music Album.
