FX renews Zach Galifianakis' 'Baskets' for season 2

FX has just ordered a second season of  Zach Galifianakis' latest project.

According to VarietyBaskets has just been renewed for season 2, which will premiere in early 2017. This news comes as we're about halfway through the comedy's freshman season, so FX is clearly pleased with how the show has done so far.

Indeed, Baskets has become this season's most-watched basic cable comedy, attracting about 1.5 million viewers per episode. The ratings have surpassed the last season of FX's Louie, and they're about on par with season 6 of Archer.

Baskets is bold, brilliant and incredibly funny and we could not be happier with the reception it’s received in its breakout first season,” producer Eric Schrier said in a statement. “Baskets brings together three of the most innovative comedic minds working today — Zach [Galifianakis], Louis [C.K] and Jonathan [Krisel] — and we thank them, the rest of the creative team and the entire cast for everything they’ve done for the series.”

In Baskets, Galifianakis portrays a man who dreams of becoming a professional clown but who is stuck working a local rodeo. It's produced by Louis C.K. and Louie producer Dave Becky. The series airs Thursdays at 10 on FX.
