The end is near in 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Super Bowl trailer

The new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse has been released, giving us a glimpse into some of the film's key action sequences.

In the commercial, which aired during the Super Bowl and has now been posted on 20th Century Fox's YouTube account, we see several of the new mutants in action. That includes our first look at Olivia Munn as Psylocke, cutting straight through a car while jumping into frame. We see more of the new Cyclops as well, returning after being killed off in X-Men: The Last Stand. There's plenty of apocalyptic chaos going on to boot, with missiles being launched and a city being destroyed by some mysterious entity.

Apocalypse is expected to be the end of the trilogy that was launched by X-Men: First Class, according to Slash Film. It's unclear if that means the franchise will return to present day after Apocalypse, which takes place in 1983. Director Bryan Singer described the sequel as "kind of a conclusion of six X-Men films, yet a potential rebirth of younger, newer characters," according to Entertainment Weekly.

X-Men: Apocalypse stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn and Evan Peters. It hits theaters on May 27.
