While the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences included stars who died in January and February of this year in its In Memoriam segment during the 88th Oscars, Abe Vigoda was among the stars who didn’t make it.
Vigoda died on Jan. 26 at age 94. His omission sparked jokes on Twitter that referenced the premature reports of the Godfather actor’s death.
They left Abe Vigoda out of the in memorium. That's okay, he dies every year anyway. #Oscars

While Vigoda was not mentioned, another Godfather actor, Alex Rocco, did get a spot.
Other film luminaries who died in the past year were missing, as well. The New York Times notes that French director Jacques Rivette; Manoel de Oliveira of Portugal; Rocky star Tony Burton; and Geoffrey Lewis, Juliette Lewis’ father.
My dad #GeoffreyLewis was beloved and contributed over 220 roles in film and tv. @TheAcademy maybe you can remember to include him nxt yr

The Academy did post an In Memoriam gallery on its website, which does include Vigoda and others who were not mentioned during the broadcast.
